THE CHALLENGE
In the USA, we are failing our Parkinson’s patients with an insufficient number of training centers and even fewer specialists. The demand far outweighs the supply. After years of progress, a disease that was once considered untreatable has shown promising advancements when placed in the right hands of movement disorder specialists. Yet, many states are without any movement disorder specialists. Because this disease is so unique to each person, a specialist is vital to the proper care of each patient. Equipped with the right tools and an increased understanding, specialists now have the power to vastly improve the quality of life for those patients affected. Our challenge is to increase the education, research and clinical care around Parkinson’s through fellowships and training.
